ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
We Make It Easy for you to Help Others

Pro Cayma is a public charity 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization with the mission to help empower women in the region of Alto Cayma and to become economically independent through the development of business enterprises and education.
Since 2017, Pro Cayma have been helping the people of the region of Alto Cayma, in the outskirts of Arequipa, in Peru. Approximately 45% of people in Arequipa, which is Peru's second largest city, live in poverty. Of those, 15% live in extreme poverty. Most of the more than 30,000 people in Alto Cayma live under the most extreme conditions of poverty.

In these years, the volunteers of Pro Cayma have met wonderful women who experience unbelievable economic, emotional and personal hardships. Most of the people living in Alto Cayma are Quechua Indians who lack housing, healthcare, skills, and education. Most households are led by single women as their husbands and partners are in the mines working faraway or have abandoned them.

Do you want to help us help these women and children?

The work of Pro Cayma in Alto Cayma focuses on helping empower women and their children, always the most vulnerable to poverty and neglect, by providing them with the possibility to start their own business enterprise.
We are starting a new poultry program in the region to help women become more economically independent. Growing chickens can provide poor women economic independence and self-reliance thus reducing or eliminating the current staggering rate of domestic abuse. These animals and their eggs can be sold within the community (providing them with needed cash) and used for personal consumption (providing their families with much needed protein).

Most importantly, this type of animal farming microenterprise allows women to provide for their children, overcoming the neglect they experience from their husbands and partners. It puts them in charge of their own money and fate so they can take care of themselves, their children, and their elderly parents.

We believe that small businesses, in the hands of capable women, can lead to a reduction of many physical, emotional and psychological problems often related to poverty such as malnutrition, low life expectancy, domestic abuse, lack of education, drug/alcohol abuse, or depression.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
It Starts With the Will to Make a Difference

Every contribution goes toward making our world a better place, so if you’re looking to contribute a donation, please get in touch today.

THERE ARE NO MIDDLEMEN OR INTERMEDIARIES.
100% of YOUR DONATIONS REACH THE WOMEN IN ALTO CAYMA.
Making a positive difference has never been so easy.
Chickens make eggs and those eggs provide fast cash and great nutrition. We are starting a pilot project involving a small number of families.
Each family will be given 25 chickens, training and on-going supervision in the hopes that soon they will have to make space for more. A single chicken can lay up to 200 eggs a year, plenty to sell for regular income and feed the entire family.
These eggs will provide much needed protein for the family and much needed cash once these eggs reach the local market!
We are asking for gently used or new warm winter clothing for the women, men and children in Alto Cayma.
We deliver your generous donations to Alto Cayma every time we visit Peru.
